Hughesville Area Public Library Facts
- Library established in 1941.
- Relocated to Main Street building in 1976 with 7,000 volumes.
- By
2000, library holdings more than doubled to 16,000 volumes.
- A
feasibility study in 2000 identified several structural deficiencies
that
ruled out renovation of current building.
- Library Building Committee formed in 2000 and purchased land in 2002.
- A 2003
library consultant’s study recommended a new library building
with almost double the space
to allow for 20-year growth.
- New library completed June 2006.
This project is
supported, in part, through a contract with the Office of
Commonwealth
Libraries, Department of Education, with funds provided from the
Keystone Recreation, Park, and Conservation fund
